1922-2016

Ruth Eleanor (Brumbaugh) Birch, 93, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, formerly of Hollidaysburg passed away Tuesday evening at The Village.
She was born in rural Martinsburg, daughter of the late Arch and Orpha (Replogle) Brumbaugh.
She married Levi Amos Birch Jr. on August 7, 1965 in Martinsburg. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2011.
Surviving are 2 nieces: Sharon King (husband, Charles) and Debbie Derry; 5 nephews: Terry Wagner, Blake Wagner (wife, Karen), Wayne Brumbaugh (wife, Doreen), Jack Brumbaugh (wife, Patty), and Larry Brumbaugh (wife, Barbara); and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen F. Brumbaugh; and a brother, W. Clyde Brumbaugh.
Ruth was a 1940 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg, a 1944 graduate of Juniata College, Huntingdon, and completed her education at Penn State University.
She was a lifetime member of Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg, where she had served as organist, Sunday school teacher, and also on the Church of the Brethren district board.
Ruth retired in 1983 as an elementary school teacher from the Hollidaysburg School District with 39 years of service.
She was active in many educational organizations, and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education Society. Following retirement she volunteered for the Altoona Contact, The Village at Morrisons Cove, and many other organizations.
Ruth enjoyed music, reading and traveling.
Friends will be received from 10:30 am until the 12 noon funeral service, Friday, March 18, 2016 at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, rural Martinsburg, Pastor David F. Banaszak and Chaplain Linda S. Banaszak officiating.
Private interment will follow at Brumbaugh Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to her church and arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
