James Thornwell Center, 81, a native of Louisiana and a resident of Santa Cruz for the last 30 years, died Monday in a local hospital. He had been active in bridge-building prior to his retirement because of poor health. He also worked as a carpenter in this area.

CHURCH OBITUARY

DEATHS: Mr. James Thornwell Center, brother of our Mr. S.D. Center, passed away Monday, July 10th, at his home in Santa Cruz, following an extended illness. The funeral services and interment were held there the following Friday.

It was written on the backside of a business card from The Furguson Mortuary that James Thornwell Center died from congestive heart failure, arteriosclerotic heart disease, and generalized arterial celliosis.

Another newspaper obituary stated that the cremation remains would be sent to the Fairview Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but there is no listing of this burial on Oklahoma. Ama Leigh Center, with of S.D. Center, told Nannette Center of Dallas, Texas that James Thornwell Center's ashes were spread in the San Francisco Bay, CA.

There was a total of 9 children in the family, six sons and three daughters. I have found all of the sons, but can not locate the 3 girls. Below is the information that I have on the 3 girls:

Margaret Dargan Center (female) Born Jan 26, 1875 - Fairfield, S.C.
Hester Boyd Center (female) Born Nov 9, 1874 - Desoto Parish, LA.
Helen Howard Center (female) Born Nov 18, 1876 - Desoto Parish, LA.

I hope to be able to find these 3 family members someday!
