Royland L. “Tom” Skirvin, 56, of Vevay, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital.

He was born June 20, 1959, in Madison, to Clyde “Mousie” Skirvin Jr. and Betty Jean Otter Adams. He was raised in Switzerland County, where he was a 1978 graduate of Switzerland County High School. He held a life insurance and health insurance license. He and his wife co-owned and co-operated Senior Market Solutions for 35 years in West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the Vevay Post 185 Sons of the American Legion, Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969 and the Knights of Columbus Council 1631 in North Vernon. He was also a member of the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church in Vevay. He enjoyed camping, his tepee, riding horses, singing karaoke, listening to Elvis Presley music, and spending time with his grandchildren, his family and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Kay Vogel Skirvin, whom he married June 3, 1978; two daughters, Lorilee Smith of Rochester, Minn. and Valerie Skirvin of Vevay; one son, Ryan Skirvin of Sevierville, Tenn.; one sister, Belinda “Boo” Anderson of Madison; two brothers, Richard Skirvin of Madison and Billy J. Skirvin of Scottsburg; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, George Bryant Adams.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations for a mass or to the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
