Derrell was a Merchant Marine veteran having served in World War II and retired in the construction industry as an electrical engineer.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Taylor; children, Rocky Darlene Gibson and her husband, Hoot, Belinda Goodrum and John Douglas Taylor; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, David Bruce Taylor; and daughter, Linda Barbee.
