John Nelson, the son of Earl Ward and Agnes Alfreda (Melin) Nelson, was born in Brule, Nebraska on October 18, 1929 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on May 27, 2006, at the age of 76.

John grew up in Brule Nebraska, and graduated from Brule High School. He served his country from August of 1948 to July of 1949. John attended Kearney State College for one year. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1957 where he received his B.A. Degree in Agriculture.

John was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Lacey on September 9,1951, at Oakland, California. They farmed in Keith County for 15 years before moving to Aurora in 1966. John then worked as salesman in agriculture until his retirement.

John was a member of the Brule Lions Club, the American Legion for over 50 years, and the Elks Club in Keith County. John was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and playing cards. John enjoyed country music and he was especially proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother William H. Nelson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy Nelson of Aurora, four sons, Ken and his wife Nancy of Williamsburg, VA, Mike of Aurora, Doug and his wife Sue of Burke, VA, and Jeff of Aurora. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Beau and Kate Nelson, Larce and Mollie Nelson, Megan and Jenny Nelson, and Amber and Sam Nelson.
