Mr. Bates was a chef by profession and worked at this trade until he moved to Yukon in 1942 from Oklahoma.
On Mar. 14, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ethel Dilley. They recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Bates was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, two sons, Raymond W. Bates of Aspen, Colo., and Robert Earl Bates of Washington, D.C., five grandchildren, three brothes, Grover of Houston, Tex., Charley of Interlochen, Fla., and Floyd of Yukon.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 29, at the Big Creek Church with Mrs. Sadie Miles officiating. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans-Elliott.
