Stephen (Steve) L. Schulz, 65, of Pittsburg died unexpectedly Monday, March 21, 2016 at his home.

He was born April 24, 1950 in Missouri the son of Robert E. and Katherine (Sears) Schulz.

He was a 1968 graduate of Louisburg High School. He attended Baker University for two years before joining the United States Army in 1970.

While stationed in New York he met and married his wife Linda Peterson on August 5, 1972.

Following his time in the service Steve and Linda relocated to Pittsburg where he finished his schooling at Pittsburg State University, receiving his BS and MA degrees in Social Work.

Steve worked for RCY in the 1970's until 1986 at which time he began working as a sub for the United States Postal Service. In 1996 he began working full time for the USPS and worked as a full time rural carrier in Ft. Scott until his retirement in 2011.

Survivors include his wife Linda of the home; a son Brian P. Schulz of Joplin, MO; a grandson Reece P. Schulz of Pittsburg; a sister-in-law Gail Jones of Joplin, MO; his uncle Billy, aunts Jackie and Mildred and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1996, his mother in 2011 and a brother Robert "Mikey" Schulz in 2015.

Additionally he will be greatly missed by Kibble, Humphrey and Oreo.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday March 25, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Larry Thornburg officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery Mausoleum, where the Kansas National Guard Military Funeral Honors Detail Team will conduct flag folding and presentation ceremonies

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday.
