Rites Today For J. E. (Ed) Porter: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Brooks-Cochell Mortuary at Albany for James Edward (Ed) Porter, 82, a long time Gentry, Mo., resident, who was taken by death Tuesday at the Gentry County Memorial hospital at Albany following in a long illness. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. Howard Judah and burial will be in the High Ridge cemetery here. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jackson Wisdom of Stanberry, with whom he had lived recently; two sons, Clifton Porter and Leon Porter, both of Gentry, and a brother, Dale Porter, also of Gentry. Mr. Porter was preceded in death last September 15 by his wife, Mrs. Callie May Porter. An obituary will appear in the next issue of The Headlight.

James Edgar Porter, son of Joseph and Martha Lewis Porter, was born in Gentry county on Sept. 13, 1884, and passed away at the Gentry County Memorial hospital in Albany, Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1966, at the age of 82 years, two months and two days. Ed was the eldest of four sons and had lived in the Gentry county area all of his life. He was united in marriage with Callie May Gunter on Dec. 18, 1910, in Alanthus and to this union three children were born. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Anna Jean Wisdom of Stanberry; two sons, Clifton Porter of Albany and Leon Porter of Gentry; and by one brother, Dale Porter of Gentry.

NOTE: There is a discrepancy on his middle name of whether it is Edward or Edgar. He went by "Ed". On his WWI and WWII military draft cards he signed his name on both as "James Edward Porter", so it's likely that this is his correct name.
