JEFFERSON — Flavia V. Cole of Jefferson, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016, surrounded by her loving family singing her favorite hymns, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, joining her beloved husband, Martin R. Cole Sr., and her daughter, Janet, who passed away at the age of two.
She was born on May 19, 1922, in Reamer, W.Va., to Frank and Gertrude Myers. She was one of twelve children. She married her love of her life, Martin, at the age of 18. They moved to Jefferson in 1950, where they reared three children. They were married 39 years before Martin went to be with the Lord June 3, 1979.
Flavia is survived by her three children, Donna Barton of Delaware, Martin (Julie) Cole Jr. of Jefferson and Sherry (Garth) Cornell of Ashtabula. In addition, she has five grandchildren, Tim (Carla) Barton of Delaware, Terri (Drew) Bragga of Atlanta, Ga., Traci (Dean) Allard of Delaware, Matthew (Fabiola) Cole of Ludlow, Ky., Jessica (Dylan) Wessell of Fishers, Ind., along with seven great-grandchildren, all whom loved her dearly. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Henson of Fayetteville, W.Va., and Gloria Jean Jordon of Fayetteville, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by her six brothers and three sisters.
Besides being a great wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a woman of great faith. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson for 56 years. She held positions of Deaconess, Sunday School teacher both for youth and adults, Chairman of the Missions Board and a member of Church Council, along with being a diligent worker at Vacation Bible School and Youth Club. She was a strong advocate and participant in the American Baptist’s Women’s Missionary Society and was a volunteer in Manna for many years. She had many friends of the church and the extended community who loved and admired her.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Flavia Cole will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 85 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Phillip Kachersky officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling Hours will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, or the First Baptist Church (above address).
