"This life I live
I've loved and lost
I've laughed and cried
And when I leave this life I've lived
I'll smile and know
I wouldn't have changed a thing."

Joan was a very good friend of mine for over 30 years, a friendship that began when my youngest son was in her 4th grade class at Pine Avenue School in Alma, MI. She had a wonderful sense of humor and many interests.

Joan was the daughter of the late Walter and Leona Maxson. She graduated from Bay City High School and got her teaching degree at Central Michigan University. Her teaching experience included Shepherd Public Schools (MI), Arlington Public Schools (Texas) and Alma Public Schools (MI). Her interests included, gardening, painting, her Corvette, traveling and a deep love of nature and animals, which I also shared.

Joan was married to the late Charles Hawkins, and is survived by her husband of thirteen years, Robert Kretchman. Also surviving are a son, daughter, grandson, son-on-law, daughter-in-law, brother and wife, niece and nephew, three stepsons and two of their wives, many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Her beloved dog, Rudy, will be lost without her, I'm sure. I hope she knows how much I valued her friendship. She is buried with her first husband, Charles Hawkins.

Remember me when flowers bloom
early in the Spring.
Remember me on Sunny days,
in the fun that summer brings.
Remember me in the Fall,
as you walk through the leaves of Gold.
And remember me in the wintertime,
in the stories that are told.
But most of all remember,
Each day-right from the start.
I will be forever near,
For I live within your heart.

CAUSE OF DEATH: Cancer
