Elizabeth Bateman first shows up in the 1860 federal census for Pittsylvania County, Virginia. In 1870, she appears in the census of Surry County, North Carolina as "Sarah Bateman". She is the daughter of Lloyd Bateman and Maacha "Mickey" Gaulden Bateman. I know that Mickey Bateman died in Stokes County, North Carolina, in April 1880. I cannot find Lloyd Bateman after the 1880 census (Stokes County), so I can only assume that he also died in Stokes County, NC.
