Enlisted at 14 years of age, August 17, 1861, as a drummer boy (musician), in the 35th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, with his father, Cornelius, who also enlisted as a musician. Orion was mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee, September 10, 1862. After the war, he and his wife, Frances, raised four daughters and practiced law in Cleveland. At the time of his death he resided at 2901 Archwood Ave. in Cleveland.
