In 1889, on November 23 in Ohio, Dora T. was born to Antonina (nee Osowski) and Andrzej "Andrew" Michalak. Her parents had married in Poland in 1873, and emigrated as newlyweds. She had five older brothers. Three years later, in 1892, their last brother was born, Kaiser J Michalak.
Three more sisters came along,
1894– Louisa "Louise" Michalak (Zakrzewski, d. 1975)
1896– Wanda Michalak
1898– Regina "Rose" Michalak (Schmidbauer, d. 1965).

In 1908, their mother passed away. As eldest daughter, more responsibility fell on teenage Dora.

In 1912, on July 12 in Monroe, Michigan, 22 year old Dora married 19 year old Bert Van Buskirk. The following day, she gave birth to their son, Louis Marion Vanbuskirk.
In 1917, when Bert registered for the draft, he shows as married with child support.

In the 1920 census of Ohio, 29 year old Dora Micbalok (maiden surname) is showing as a Married daughter. 7 year old Louis Micbalok is listed as "nephew." The Micbalok family seems to be living in a community near others with Polish surnames.
In contrast, by the 1920 census, Bert has a different wife, and has had a daughter on June 10, 1920 in Ohio, Dorothy Ellen VanBuskirk.
That December 1920, her brother Leo passed away.
Her brother Kaiser had several children, Dora's nephews and nieces:

1925– Edward Michalak (d. 1999)
1929– Lucille Michalak (Ludwikoski, d. 2004)
1935– Patricia Ann Michalak

Summer of 1923, her father, "Grandpa Andrew," passed away.
In 1926, her sister Regina married George Michael Schmidbauer.
Boxing Day 1926, birth of her niece Virginia Zakrzewski.

By the 1930 census of Port Lawrence, Lucas County, Ohio, 39 year old Dora Ziebar is remarried to 41 year old Walter Ziebar, with her 17 year old son listed as Louis M. Ziebar.

In 1941, her son Louis enlisted.
In 1944, on December 18 in Belgium, Louis was killed in action.
In 1946, near Hallowe'en, in their home basement, Walter hung himself.
In 1948, Dora ordered a military headstone to honor Louis' sacrifice.
Also in 1948, her brother-in-law, Louise's husband, passed away.

In 1950, her closest younger brother Kaiser passed away.
In 1965, her sister Regina passed away.
