WAUCONDA, IL - Gertrude Elsie Acord, age 90, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL, surrounded by her loving family. Gertrude was born February 6, 1926 in Slab Ford, WV to the late Charles "Charley" Garfield Farley (1898-1970) and Flora Elizabeth Waddell-Farley (1904-1987).
Gertrude was the sister of Elvia Garfield Farley (1927-1998), Curtis Farley (Deceased), Sylvia Farley-Wooten (Deceased), Annie Farley-Cook, Carolyn Farley-Kefeys, & Regettie Farley. She was married to Roy Cecil Acord (1927-1993) on October 27, 1944 in Oceana, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1944, Page 467, Application Date: October 24, 1944).
Gertrude was a retired Certified Nurses Aid and enjoyed entertaining family and friends, with an open door policy. She had been a resident of Wauconda, IL for 55 years. She loved gardening and quilting.
Gertrude was the beloved mother of June Acord-Thomas and husband Robert Thomas (Deceased), Glenna Acord-South and husband Dennis South, Debbie Acord-Hauter, Charles "Joseph" Acord (1948-2014) and Judy Acord-Hauter, and Gwendolyn Acord; loving grandmother of Diane Jones and husband Wayne Jones, Tracy Josey and husband Guy Josey, Jephrey South and wife Silvia South, Ann South-Dollar, Jacob Acord, Kenneth Acord , Ellissa Hauter and Robert Hauter.
She was also the cherished great-grandmother of Jaymi Hunt, Aaron Deckard, Noah Josey, Kieara Jones, Randy and Ramey Dollar and Jake Acord; proud great-great-grandmother of Hannah and Mason Hunt; dear sister of Bridgetta "Jeti" Farley-Vespar, Carolyn Farley-Kelsey and husband Fred Kelsey and Annie Farley-Cook and the late Elvia Farley (Deceased) and wife Evelyn Farley and the late Curtis Farley (Deceased) and wife Violet Farley; fond aunt of Joseph Sabo, Rose Ruttkai and husband Mike Ruttkai Sr., Gail Wooten, and Douglas Wooten and wife Sherry Wooten; great aunt of Mike Ruttkai Jr. and wife Rose Ruttkai and Debbie Ann Rasmussen; and several kind and helpful neighbors.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 1:00 pm to the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main St., Wauconda, IL 60084. Interment will be in the Palm Memorial Garden Cemetery in Matheny, WV on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at 11:00 am.
