She was the daughter of Arthur E. Blanchard and Catherine Caroline MullenPOWERS, Miriam Blanchard

Powers, Miriam Blanchard Dobbins Steckler, 96, died Saturday, February 27, 2016. She was born to Arthur E. Blanchard and Catherine Caroline Mullen of New Orleans on May 27, 1919. She leaves a large grieving family. She first married the late Waller H. Dobbins with whom she had one son, Waller H. Dobbins, Jr, now deceased, and three daughters, Dianne D. Schindler also deceased; Judy D. Mills (Bruce) of Terrytown, LA; and Catherine L. Kearney of Metairie, LA. She then married the late Philip J. Steckler., III, with whom she had a son, Philip J. Steckler, IV of Houma, LA; and last married the late Clarence L. Powers. She is survived by ten grandchildren, Jodi S. Wittliff of Metairie, LA; Melissa S. Williamson (Ian) of Las Vegas, N.M.; Kaia S. Williams (Johnathan) of Mandeville, LA; Bruce C. Mills, Jr, of Metaire, LA; Linda M. Hinton (Steve) of Little Rock, AR; Geoffrey C. Mills (Gail) of Bartlesville, OK; Carolyn K. Blanchard of Conrad, MT; Miriam W. Wolfson (Alan) of Spokane, WA; Kirsten W. Jochems of Spokane, WA; and Kayla Steckler of Houma, LA. She is survived by twenty-one great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren, along with many nephews, nieces and their families. The family extends its most sincere appreciation to the kind and loving caretakers of Brookdale Memory Care in Kenner, AmeraCare Hospice and Comfort Keepers, especially to Haydee Ventura.

Miriam retired from service in the Electrical Permits Department of New Orleans City Hall having served under Mayors Victor Schiro and Moon Landrieu. In later years she traveled with her husband and enjoyed playing cards with friends. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother whose memory is cherished, never to be forgotten.

The family will receive friends beginning at 8:30 AM on Friday March 11, 2016, at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated at 9:45 A.M. in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home 3827 Canal St. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests Masses be said in Mrs. Powers name.
