Clara E. Phillips, 96, of 522 First avenue, Waynesburg, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 1980. She had not been in good health for some time.
She was born November 21, 1883, in Aleppo Township, a daughter of the late John C. and Lyda Loar Whipkey.
She had spent her early life in the Aleppo community and had spent the last 60 years in Waynesburg.
She was the oldest member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Sunday school class of the church. She was also a charter member of the WSCS Society of the church. While health permitted she had been very active in church work.
Her husband, George A. Phillips, died April 15, 1963.
She is survived by a son, Glenn W. Phillips of Waynesburg; two brothers, Jesse Whipkey of Aleppo and Ray C. Whipkey of Carmichaels and several nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Anna Todd and Sophie Wilhelm and four brothers, Charles, Noel, Elmer and James, are deceased.
