Cyrus was born in 1805 in Greenbrier County, Virginia (now West VA) probably in Lewisburg. The date of his birth is recorded in his parent's Bible. On September 15, 1831 he married Diana Evans in Cooper County, Missouri (also taken from Bible records) and they had nine children: Jane Ann, Tacitus Ryland, Cordelia, Octavia, Mollie, Sereptia, Cyrus, Aetna and Izora. After Diane's death he married Mary Means in Missouri in 1857. He moved to Missouri with his parents in 1830 and he served as a Christian minister and a Union Soldier. It was while serving for the Union that he became ill and died.
