Dr. Harry S. Pitler was born in New York City and was the son of Morris and Freda (Farkas) Pitler. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater as an x-ray technician. Dr. Pitler earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University and medical degree from New York University. He interned at Genesee Hospital in Rochester. Dr. Pitler and his family moved to Canandaigua in 1954, where he practiced medicine from 1954 to 2010. He was the former chief of medicine at F.F. Thompson Hospital and also worked at the continuing care center at the hospital. Dr. Pitler was also a clinical instructor at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He was the medical director for Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service. Dr. Pitler was a former member and president of the Canandaigua City School Board and the F.F. Thompson Hospital Board. He volunteered for Literacy Volunteers of Ontario County. Dr. Pitler enjoyed sailing, swimming, tennis, golf and skiing at Bristol Mountain, where he was a member of the ski patrol, and most of all, spending time with his family.
