Per Genealogist Thomas Adkins: http://www.adkins.ws/individual.php?pid=I5842&ged=Adkins.GED

He requested Lafayette's pension files from national archives. They stated he died 12 Nov 1864 of scurvy at Camp Lawton, Georgia (a Confederate Military Prison.)

He also states that this family memorial is probably NOT the burial site of Lafayette, as that 600+ soldiers in a mass grave were later relocated to Beaufort, SC after the war.
