Kemp M. Atkins, 80, of Summerfield, NC., went home to be with Jesus Monday, April 4, 2016 at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro. A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Ray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Atkins officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery. A Surry County native (Shoals community), Kemp was born January 26, 1936, the son of Clinton and Alice Newsome Atkins. He was of the Christian faith and was a retired electrician and part-time farmer. In addition to his parents, Kemp was preceded in death by his sister, Nellie Gray Davenport; two brothers, Dick Atkins and George Atkins. Kemp is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary M. Atkins of the home; four children, Robyn Davis and husband Sherrill of Kernersville, Terry W. Atkins of Greensboro, Kimberly Atkins and finance Chris of Charlotte and Shane K. Atkins and wife Teresa of Eden; brother, Bobby Lee Atkins and wife Judy of Madison; six grandchildren, Joshua Davis and wife Monika of Walkertown, Ian Davis and wife Heather of Kernersville, Kendra Gibson of Big Creek, KY, Haley Atkins, Allison Atkins, both of Madison, and Jacob Atkins of Eden; six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Ray Funeral Home.
