Shirley Ann Howell, 79 year old resident of Gentry, Arkansas, died April 5, 2016 at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. Born June 16, 1936 in Greenwood, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Jethro Shurden and Felton (Jenkins) Shurden. Shirley married Douglas Joe Howell, Sr. in Greenwood, Mississippi. She was a hair stylist for twenty-nine years. Shirley and Doug lived most of their life in the Whitehaven, Tennessee area. She was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Southaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Joe Howell, Sr.; her parents, Jethro and Felton Shurden; and two sisters, Alma Bigbee and Geraldine Reed.

She is survived by one son, Joe Howell and wife Carolyn of Nesbit, Mississippi; two daughters, Mona Wiltshire of Gentry, and Vickie Hunter and husband Jim of Southaven; six grandchildren: Elizabeth Miller, Jason Hunter, Amy Shields, Chase Hunter, Brandon Howell, and Brian Howell; and two great grandchildren, Gavin Shields and Ripken Miller.

No services are planned at this time. The family will bury her ashes with her husband, Douglas, in Forest Hill Cemetery South, Memphis, Tennessee.
