Theresia Benrath (or Benrod) was born on May 21, 1888 in the town of Glogonj, which is now in the Vojvodina provence of modern Serbia when it was still part of Austria-Hungary. Her alternative name was Theresa Benrod. Her parents were Nicolaus Benrad (1850-1917) and Barbara Hansele (1850-1940).
She married Istvan Buchlar (1884-1964) a blacksmith in Glogonj in 1902 and had a daughter, Barbara, also born in Glogonj in 1903.
They immigrated to the U.S. in early 1905. There is one record from the immigration/ New York Passenger Lists that Buchler arrived from Fiume, Croatia (today known as Rijeka) on the ship 'Carpathia', the same ship that would later rescue survivors of the 'Titanic' sinking in 1912.
The Buchler family settled in Los Angeles, California. Her name eventually evolved to 'Theresa Beechler'. Together, Steven and Theresa had about 14 children.
In the mid-1930s, her husband Steven separated from Theresa and moved to Santa Barbara, CA. Theresa lived in East Los Angeles in the later part of her life. Theresa died on October 8, 1963 and is most likely buried at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles.
