Rev. Herbert M. Zimmerman

Rev. Herbert M. Zimmerman, 90, of Roscoe died Monday, July 2, 2001 at his residence.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001 at First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe with Pastor Glenn Dittmer officiating.

Graveside services and burial will be held Monday, July 9, 2001 at Chokio Lutheran Cemetery in Chokio, Minn.

Arrangements were made under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Roscoe.

Honorary pallbearers were the men of First Salem Lutheran Church.

Mr. Zimmerman was born on May 14, 1911 in Chokio, Minn. He married Maude Herschap on Feb. 23, 1954 in Corpus Christi. He had lived in Roscoe since 1968 and was a member of First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe and the Roscoe Lions Club. He attended St. Paul Lutheran College in Minneapolis, Minn. from 1928 to 1932 and graduated from Wartburg Seminary of Dubuque, Iowa in 1933. He taught Parochial School and was a supply pastor at Buffalo Lake, Minn. in 1934 and then served as an interim pastor in Tuttle, N.D. in 1935.
He was ordained into the ministry on Nov. 17, 1935 by his hometown pastor in Chokio, Minn. and accepted his first call to Texas the same month. He served parishes at Shilo, Sublime, Orange Grove, Marion, Weimar and Roscoe. He retired in Roscoe in 1979. After retirement he continued the ministry by filling in at surrounding community churches. He was honored in 2000 for 65 years of service in the Lutheran Ministry.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Merz of Austin and Connie Groff of Abilene; four sons, Mark Zimmerman of Midland, Kenny Zimmerman of Caldwell, Reuben Zimmerman of Lindale and Rodney Kelso of Seguin; three sisters, Gertrude Brunkow of Herman, Minn., Doris Heuer of Minneapolis, Minn. and Joy Dougherty of Lake Barrington, Ill.; two brothers, Victor Zimmerman of Chokio, Minn. and Phillip Zimmerman of Minneapolis, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Schauer Zimmerman in 1952; his second wife, Lena Maude Herschap Zimmerman in 1989; and one son, Brian Zimmerman.

Memorials may be made to the First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe, Lutheran World Relief or to the American Diabetes Association.
