Howard was born in colac, victoria and is the second son to die in a war for parents Edward Roger Griffiths and Catherine Griffiths, nee Howard. A bootmaker, howard was KIA in Papua New Guinea and is buried at Bomana War Cemetery at Port Moresby. He enlisted at the Melbourne town hall on the 21st of April 1942 at the age of 38 years and 10 months. A.LF. 2/12 Bn. Australian Infantry. His service # is VX73681. Howards older brother, "Harold Maurice Griffiths", died in WW1 in France and is Buried at Grevillers British Cemetery.
