It's believed by this biographer, who is a descendant, that he was the son of Elijah and Nancy Raines, and brother to Elizabeth, Jane, Margaret, and Lucinda.
He and his first wife, Sarah, whom he married in Chester Co. SC, had the following known children: William, Nancy J., Mary Elizabeth, who married Roselvo Saint, Margaret "Maggie", who married Columbus Jenkins, Lee (male), Eliza, Charles, and Sarah. His wife, Sarah, passed away sometime between 1870 and 1876.
According to Lincoln County records, Silvanus married several times thereafter. He had three known children with his third wife, Mary Adeline Watson, whom he married March 31, 1878. Those children were Callie, who married Oscar Sturgis, Christopher, and Victoria, who married James Frank Bostian.
Silvanus died sometime after July 30th of 1887, the date of his 5th known marriage, but probably before the 1900 Census since he is not listed. His burial is unknown, but is probably in either Mill Creek, Lincoln Co., or Clear Creek, Drew Co. AR.
