LMaquay, Diaries 23/3/1855 'to a funeral service at Mr Greys for his child 22 months old died some weeks ago . . . then in carriage provided by them to the cemetery where the coffin was previously sent.' He is, actually, not yet ten months old when his parents leave him by the shores of the Arno. The carriages for an innocent child would be white, those for mature adults, black, as we see in the nearby Misericordia Cemetery in Via degli Artisti, their horses having matching plumes.
