He attended schools in his hometown, then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard ship during the Korean War.
After being discharged, he returned to Morgantown where he attended and graduated from West Virginia University.
He served in Hawaii for seven years as an auditor. He then became an inspector for the Foreign Service Department and served, throughout the world.
In his retirement years, Mr. Brushel became a real estate agent and broker for Vintage Properties.
In 1977, he married the former Marjorie Augustiny in Switzerland.
Mr. Brushel is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Napa; a stepson, Daniel Lennox of Santa Rosa; two sisters, Margaret Staggs and Esther Bostic, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
