John B. Agers, 83, of 708 N. 13th, Herrin, died at 2 pm Saturday, February 17, 1990 at home. Services will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with burial in San Carlo Cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Agers was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, K of C, Carpenters union and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born December 9, 1906 in New Burnside to Joe and Cerena Zimers Agers. He married Nell Bayles in 1931 and she survives. Other survivors include sons, Joe of Tucson AZ, Jim of Las Vegas NV, John and Tom, both of Herrin, daughter, Gloria Glaser of Toledo OH, brothers Allen of Titusville FL and Leo of Pagosa Springs CO, sisters, Mary Fenton of Irvington TX and Nettie Ullrich of Aurora IN, 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded him in death.
