James E. Belch, member of one of Cole County's oldest and most influential families, died in a hospital at Tulsa, Okla., yesterday after a several weeks illness of heart trouble. He was about 55 years old.
Mr. Belch was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J.Ed Belch and was born and reared in Cole county. The Belch family was prominent in Cole County business and political circles for many years. The late Monroe P. Belch, brother of James E. Belch, was for years a prominent Central Missouri lawyer. he served as prosecuting attorney of Cole County and was among the most widely known lawyers in this part of the state. He was active in politics until his death.
James E. Belch conducted the Old Belch farm near Osage City for many years. About seven years ago he disposed of the farm and moved to Oklahoma where he resided until his death at Tulsa yesterday.
The only surviving members of the family are Misses Julia and Ida Belch of this city. They were with their brother when he died.
The body will arrive here about noon tomorrow and the funeral will take place at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.
