Gabriella "Ella" Pataki was born on 20 Apr 1880 in Trencsén, Hungary (now Trenčín, Slovakia).

Ella immigrated to the US in 1895 when she was about 15 years old. It is unclear if she was single or married at the time.

She married Paul Simon, and they had 12 children together over 26 years, ten of whom lived to adulthood.

Ella died on her birthday on 30 Apr 1950 at the age of 70 in Fordham, a neighborhood located in the western Bronx, New York City.

Nothing definitive is known of Ella's family of origin. Her children were raised believing that her maiden name had been Pataki, but multiple records after the end of World War II give her maiden name as Walters, and her death certificate names her parents as Paul and Louise Walters.
