Hugh Carr, 68, died at his home at 12:15 am Sunday after an extended illness of stomach trouble. He was born in County Derry, Ireland, March 3, 1839, son of Patrick and Martha Carr.
His parents were born there, also, and died there. Hugh followed the weaving trade in Ireland. In early manhood he moved to Scotland, where he worked in a locomotive factory. In 1867 he immigrated to the United States and continued in the iron business. Un August 1768 he began working for Dr. W. C. Tweedle who was operating the Eclipse Oil Works in Pittsburgh. The worked burned down in 1870 and moved to Aladdin, Armstrong County, then in 1873 established in Franklin. Hugh came to Franklin then, and lived here since. In 1877 he, George Allen, and Robert Fleming erected Franklin Oil Works. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, and in politics was a staunch Republican, and believed every foreign-born man should be a citizen of the united States. He has been a successful citizen of the city, and though his business ability, has made a large circle of friends.
On May 10, 1864 he married Miss Mary Gregg of County Derry, Ireland, and they had four children, Anna Bell, Andrew, deceased, Mattie and Hugh Tolman.

Services for Hugh Carr were held at his home at 3 pm yesterday, conducted by Rev. Arthur H. Judge. Interment was in Franklin Cemetery.
