Mrs. McGrath was born in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY on Aug. 21, 1916.
She was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Hickey) Carroll. She graduated from Gorton High School, Yonkers, NY and Packard Business College, NYC. Upon graduation, she was employed by Burroughs Business Machine Co. New York City, as a Field Instructor.
In 1943, she married John F. McGrath in Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers, NY. After raising her family, she joined the staff of St. John's Riverside Hospital, where she was Director of Medical Records.
In 1976, Mae and her husband retired to East Harwich. She worked for four years as Oncology Coordinator at Cape Cod Hospital. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, where she was active in the Ladies Association, Holy Trinity Thrift Shop and The Family Pantry. She also volunteered at the Council On Aging. Mae especially loved long walks on Cape Cod beaches and having her children and grandchildren visit.
Mae is predeceased by her husband in 2011. She is survived by three sons: Kevin (Helene) of East Dennis, John (Kathy) of Killingworth, CT, Richard of Chatham and daughter, Judith Adams of Elmira, NY. She is also survived by her brother, John Carroll (Marie) of Hawthorne, NY, nine grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 18 at Holy Trinity Church, celebrated by the Rev. Edward J. Healey. The family will receive friends in the Church Hall from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Burial will take place following the service at The National Cemetery in Bourne, where she will rest in peace with her husband, John. Memorial donations may be made to The Family Pantry.
