Walter Franklin Nifong Sr., 83, of Lexington died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Forsyth County to Albert Franklin and Alice Hill Nifong. Mr. Nifong was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary E. Nifong; a son, Richard Albert Nifong; three brothers; and five sisters. Surviving are two sons, Walter F. Nifong Jr. and wife Patsy, and Robert G. Nifong and wife Jeanne; a daughter, Glenda J. Weisner and husband Thor; a special friend, Geraldine; nine grandchildren, Teresa, Franklin, Gene, Jesse, Melanie, Beth, Jan, Vicky and Bibi; two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Jacqueline; two great-great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kade; and a brother, John Wesley Nifong of Davidson County. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Grace Baptist Temple, with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 22, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
