Stanley H. Wilke, 84, Washington, died Sunday, October 26, 1997, at St. John's Mercy Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Wilke, son of the late F. William and Ida Rueter Wilke, was born July 28, 1913, at Washington. He received his education and grew to manhood here.

On April 30, 1936, he was united in marriage to Miss Marjorie Homeyer at St. Peter's Church, Washington. They were blessed with one son.

Mr. Wilke was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Washington Lions Club, Masonic Hope Lodge 251, Shriners, Scottish Rite, Washington Historical Society, and Washington Chamber of Commerce. He was a board member of Washington Savings and Loan, a former city councilman and a member of Emmaus Home board of directors.

From 1936 to 1955 he was co-owner of Moellenbrock and Wilke Hand Truck Company. After this, he was the director of Missionary Education, director of publications and distribution of church materials for the United Church of Christ national office in Philadelphia and St. Louis.

Mr. Wilke had been the director of the Heifer Project, and also organized and managed the Emmaus Sheltered Workshop from which he retired in 1978. His hobbies included woodworking and making hourglasses or sand timepieces.

Mr. Wilke was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Marjorie Wilke, Washington; one son, Wayne Wilke and wife, Tina, Stillwell, Kansas; two brothers, Rev. Dr. Harold Wilke and wife Peggy, Claremont, CA, and Harvey Wilke and wife Julia, Las Cruces, NM; two grandchildren, Robin Harding and husband, William, Lenexa, KS, and Jonathan Wilke and wife Nicole, Lawrence, KS; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Colby and Sam Harding; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 30 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Washington, Rev. Dr. William Schwab officiating.

Mr. Wilke's remains were placed at St. Peter's Church Columbarium.

The Wilke family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
