Stephen Shellie “Steve” Helmly, 61, of Moncks Corner, SC, a former owner and operator of Huddle House Restaurants, and a former agent for SLED, died Tuesday morning in a Charleston hospital.

His memorial service will be 12:30 PM Saturday afternoon, April 16, 2016, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the CHURCH from 11:00 AM until the hour of service Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 4678, Pinopolis, SC 29469.

Mr. Helmly was born April 30, 1954, in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Dozier H. Helmly and Jewell Owens Helmly. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, and attended the University of South Carolina. Mr. Helmly loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved collecting antiques, genealogy, and his church.

Surviving are, a daughter, Fay H. Whitehead and her husband, Brad, of Lebanon; his parents of Moncks Corner; a sister, Julie H. Hutson and her husband, Michael, of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Lillian Shellie, and a grandson on the way; three nieces, Victoria E. Mullinax, Cierra Weatherford, and Baylie Hutson; a nephew, Owen Soper; and one great niece, RobbiLynn Mullinax.
