Paul Winston Abernethy, 62, passed away suddenly at the Dr. Everett Chalmer's Hospital on Sunday, August 5th, 2007. A son of the late Dow and Florence (Estey) Abernethy; he was the cherished husband of Jane (Black); the beloved father of Andrew and Todd, brother to Osborne (Wilza), Neola (Sid) Cowperthwaite (late Donnie), Darlene Graham (Ardean), Donna Timms (George), and Linda Moore (Gerry). Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his son, Marc (1974); a brother-in-law, Donnie; a nephew, Terry; and his father and mother-in-law, Rod and Margaret Black. Paul lived a full, happy life. He worked for Eastern Drug (later Medis) for 35 years beginning in the warehouse, and progressing to a sales position where he made many life-long friends as they came to trust his business acumen. At the age of 27, he was named manager of Eastern Drug and brought the company through several years of growth and expansion. For his effort, he received the National Builder-of-the-Year Award in two consecutive years. He retired from the company at the age of fifty to start a new career as a restauranteur. With his sons and wife, he owned and operated four Pizza Delights in Fredericton and Saint John, a KFC in the Regent Mall, a Marvellous Muffins, and a Mike's Restaurant. He was a highly regarded businessman who believed that honesty and integrity were at the heart of all business transactions. In 2006, Paul was named Franchisee of the Year for the Pizza Delight family of restaurants. An avid sportsman, Paul played hockey at the Junior "A" level in his early years and recreationally with his many hockey buddies for several years thereafter. He also played golf regularly and was a long-standing member of the Fredericton Golf and Curling Club. He loved his time in the sun and spent vacation time in Florida and Mexico. Besides his immediate family, left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his other brothers and sisters-in-law and their families, Stephen and Barb Black, Kenneth and Dorothy Black, Judy and Graham Fawcett, Rodney and Sandra Black, Michael and Katie Black, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his best dog, Buff. Pallbearers will be his life-long friends, Andy Holyoke, Ronnie Johnston, Brian Holder, Neill Watt, Dennis Allen, Dave Saunders, Tony Palmer, and Rockey Leung
