@};- Sun., May 8, 2016, Leap year. Thank U Amy Bolinder, Find A Grave member of 2 months & 29 days, ID# 48942373, for transferring my Dad's Memorial in my care. U found the newspaper photo of my parents & myself right away. I tried finding it for over 50 years with no success.
My goodness though! The Journal News Staff photographer didn't know how to take a picture. We all should of been standing, or sitting, & looking straight ahead into the camera & have my Mom holding their son, Corbin Jr,'s U.S. Army photo, facing toward the camera as well. I recall my Dad saying he didn't like the photo where he had to look up. I don't blame him, but that's the way things goes sometimes.

My Dad. Born on a Wednesday, in a Leap Year. Died on a Monday, in a leap year, 5:00 AM in bed, at his home, at age: 67 years, 8 months & 23 days. (On Mon., July 16, 2035, my Dad will be deceased, the same amount of time, that he was alive.) He had Cirrhosis of the liver but the cause of death: Black Lung, Emphysema & after he passed, found that he had Leukemia. By his side was his wife (my Mom), Emma (Kiser) Pennington, age: 64 & their daughter, Juanita (Pennington), Crooke, age: 40. Their family doctor said it was best that he be at home rather than the hospital, that it was just a matter of time. He had been in ill health for 10 years & in serious condition the last three months of his life. He had been hospitalized on numerous occasions.

Corbin (Sr.) was one of nine children (actually 10, when his parents adopted & raised one of his sister's daughter) & the second born of three brothers to his Dad, Jesse Pennington & his Mother, Laura (Shepard), Pennington.

He was educated in the public schools of Wooten, Kentucky.
He was a Coal Miner for 23 years. He moved with his family to Hamilton, where he was later employed at Hamilton Foundry, Inc., U.S. Plywood-Champion Papers, Inc., and in January, 1957 (before his 57th birthday), when ill health forced his retirement, he was employed at Fisher Body.

Being the first & only marriage ever, for the both of them, on Sunday, July 09, 1922 at age 22, he married Mary "Emma"line Kiser, age 19, at the home of his parents in Arno, Virginia. To this union, two daughters & three sons were born. After 24+ years of marriage, he & Emma raised a granddaughter, (Mom of T.L.T.) from her age of six days & later adopted her as their own. Now raising six children. He was hard working & a devoted family man. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years & the Hamilton Men's Bible Class. The Reverend George B. Scripture/Memorial# 142015935, did my Dad's eulogy at his funeral, Thur.,10-26-1967.

He leaves his wife of 45 years, 3 months & 14 days, Emma (Kiser), Pennington, two sons & their wives, three daughters & their husbands. He also leaves five sisters: Mrs Lizzie Shelton, Mrs. Nannie Mehl, Mrs. Marie May, Mrs. Ruth Browning & Mrs. Aggie Loman, all of Hamilton, Ohio. Also, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives & many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse & Laura (Shephard), Pennington, two brothers William "Willie" Pennington & Carter Pennington & a sister, Miss Lila Pennington.

My Dad loved carpentry, planting trees, always grooming his lawn that he was so proud of & loved to do. He could make U laugh in his cool, calm & collective ways. I never heard him once ever raise his voice to any one. He was never violent or argumentative. He was very protective over his family. He loved to wheel & deal when he saw a bargain. He would have made a great salesman. He never drove a car. He never wanted to, after his youngest brother Carter, died in a single car crash in 1925. Dad walked a lot & sometimes, would drive along with Mom.

He loved baseball, the Red Socks was his favorite team, Vanilla ice cream, Country music. I heard him speak of Hank Williams. He loved The Beatles, especially Paul McCartney because he was left-handed & he kept up with current events, watching the Nightly News on our black & white screen TV. Everyone in the household had to be quiet then. He also enjoyed the country song, "Giddy-Up Go," about a semi-truck driver & his young son, released record in 1965. Sung by, "Red" Sovine, (born: Woodrow Wilson Sovine, 7-7-1917 passed 4-11-1980, Memorial# 6971.) My Dad loved going to church, till he got too sick & disabled.

NOTE: Not yet found on Find A Grave is his eldest child & daughter, Beatrice Marie (Pennington), Jervis, age, 81 years. Born: Fri., 2-29-1924 (Leap year.) Died: Tue., 3-1-2005 in Michigan & infant son, David Lee Pennington, age, 11 months. Born: Thur., 7-4-1940. Died: June, 1941 in Virginia with no headstone. Found is his sister, Lila Pennington, Memorial #181962748
