The specific date of birth and death and burial location for Jesse Mathias Abernathy is not known. I ordered his military records and from them, I learned the following:

Jesse Mathias Abernathy was a Private (Confederate Soldier) with Co. B, 4th Tennessee Cavalry. He was 5 foot 11 inches tall with light hair, fair complexion, and grey eyes.

From the Roll of Prisoners of War, received at Nashville, Tenn., March 19, 1865, from A. W. Billings, Major, 42nd Mo. and Provost Marshal. Roll dated Headqrs. Dept. Cumb., Office Pro. Marshal Gen., Nashville, Tenn., March 19, 1865:

Where Captured: Gainsboro, Kentucky
When Captured: Nov. 20, 1864

From the Roll information, he deserted the Army on Nov 20, 1864 in Gainsboro, Kentucky. He took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released on March 19th, 1865. In the "Remarks" section of the form, he stated he had no family, which I believe to mean he was unmarried with no children. He is listed to be a resident of Franklin County, Tennessee.

I believe Jesse Mathias Abernathy was deceased before 1870. There is no record of him beyond March 19, 1865.
