Born May 17, 1928 in Manito to Peter J. and Anna (Gerrietts) Hilst, she married George Edward Hodgkins on April 19, 1947 in Peoria. He died May 27, 1985 in Corbin, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Wilma Peterson and special friend, George Bishop.
Surviving are one son, Edward G. (Donna McAllister) Hodgkins of Pekin; two daughters, Linda S. (Larry) Fain of Canton and Julie A. (Wally) Hammond of Pekin; six grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Snyder of St. David, Laura Malone of Canton, David (Abby) Hammond of Tremont, Jason (Jo) Hammond of Bloomington, Brenda Hodgkins of Mapleton and Dr. Susan Renee Hodgkins of Kansas City, Kansas and 11 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn retired in 1990 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria as an executive secretary in the Basic Science Dept. She previously worked at Graham Hospital in Canton and at Walters Implement.
She loved traveling, ballroom dancing, listening to country music and spending time at the Miller Center.
Evelyn also loved supporting her grandkids in their activities.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Daniel J. Bishop will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
