Weldon Ray French passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the age of 87. Weldon Ray French was born in Bryan, Texas on April 13, 1929 to William Arthur and Ora Stella French. He was the 3rd child of 7.

After his parents separated in 1939, Ora and all the children returned to her hometown of Teck, Texas which is now located under Lake Travis in Austin. Weldon and his brothers and sister attended a little one-room school in Teck.

Weldon joined the Airforce on April 5, 1948 and served until April 25, 1950. On June 14, 1953 Weldon married Jeanne Dell Hoover in Austin, Texas. They had two children and stayed in Austin where Weldon worked as a printer. He eventually opened his own print shop called Bluebonnet Printing Company on I-35 in Austin. He was a devout Christian and served as a deacon at Brentwood Church of Christ where he was a member for many years.

Weldon suffered a stroke in 1993, so his brother, Glen became caregiver and the 2 brothers lived together until Glen's death in December 2005. Weldon then moved to The Bertram Nursing and Rehab Center where he lived for 11 years. He was active there with the Church of Christ and made many friends with residents and staff. Weldon loved to watch old movies, especially westerns, work large puzzles and play bingo. He always enjoyed stimulating his mind and challenging himself to grow in any way possible.

Family has always been very important to the Frenches. The family has long held bi-annual reunions where brothers and sister, nieces and nephews, children and grand children, cousins and close friends gather to catch up on current news and meet new family members. We fondly reminisce about the large family Christmases at Nanny's (Ora) tiny house in South Austin. Children running around, Uncles playing jokes and talking their own made up language, smoking cigars and laughing; Nanny and the Aunts cooking and holding the family together with the glue of their love.

Many friends and family members will miss Weldon but we rejoice that he had a long and fulfilling life. We have all become better people because of having known him.

He is survived by his sister, Lura Mae Walker of Houston, Texas and brother, Elvin (Kay) French of San Jose, California; his son, Steve (Joye) French of Austin, Texas; daughter, Denise (Richard) Moczygemba of Killeen, Texas; granddaughters, Jodi (Aaron) Smith of Yaounde, Cameroon in Africa and Brak Ann Moczygemba of Glendora, California; grandsons, Donny French of Austin, Texas; Walter Moczygemba of Killeen, Texas and Amos (Sharon McConnell) Moczygemba of Terre Haute, Indiana; and great-grandchildren, Hayley Billingsley of Killeen, Texas and Stephen Smith of Yaounde, Cameroon in Africa.

Weldon was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Williamson French (1984); brothers: Roy French (1992), Glen French (2005); Wilburn French (2012) and JD French (2015) and ex-wife, Jeanne Hoover French (2007).

There will be a graveside service at Teck Cemetery on RR 620 West in Austin near General Williamson Drive.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a Weldon Ray French Memorial donation to Austin Meals On Wheels, 3227 East 5th Street, Austin TX 78702, www.mealsonwheelsand more.org.
