He was born July 26, 1937, in Port Ewen, to the late Elmer Hung and Dorothy Miller Hung Chiappa. Walter moved with his mother and family to Bermuda when he was 10 years old; he returned to the United States at age 18 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After serving his country, he returned to Kingston and worked in the family restaurant business, Elmer's Inn of Ruby, and then went to work as a manager of KFC in Kingston and Poughkeepsie, he relocated to Fla. where he worked until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Ruby Rod & Gun Club and had been a member of the Ruby Fire Company; he was a member of the American Legion Post #1748 Town of Ulster and the American Legion in Melbourne, Fla.
