Randall Holden (husband of Frances Dungan) was a founder of Warwick Rhode Island and was one of the signers of the compact establishing the settlement of Portsmouth Rhode Island. Holden, Samuel Gorton and John Greene went back to England to seek redress for wrongs committed against them in Rhode Island with the King of England. They were successful in their mission. Holden and Greene returned to New England in 1646 with a new chapter for the settlement.
