Barbara Jean Newbold graduated to the next step in her eternal progression on April 19, 2016.

She was born to Alonzo (Lon) and Gertrude Eleanor Newbold in Salt Lake City on March twenty-second 1929. She was raised in the avenues of Salt Lake City during the Great Depression and World War II.

Barbara had fond memories of exploring the streets and buildings in Salt Lake City with her brothers, Jack and Jim when they were young. They stood in bread lines with a pillow case for their mother before they rode elevators and went to 5 cent movies in town for fun.

A handsome, tough Marine, I. Lynn Allred, began courting her in 1948. The fourth time he asked her to marry him, she finally said yes. They were married on March 22, 1948 in Salt Lake. On March 10, 2007, they were sealed together for all eternities in the Vernal, Utah temple. Their marriage was 68 year adventure filled with challenges and love.

Lynn and Barbara raised their children in the Canyon Rim area of Salt Lake and stayed there until they reached retirement when they then moved to Vernal, Utah. They enjoyed that season of their lives with new friends and fishing at Matt Warner reservoir. As their health began to weaken Lynn and Barbara left their lovely home and ward in Vernal and returned to the Salt Lake Valley to live with their daughter, Julie, and her husband Daren.

Barbara was a gifted seamstress, cook, baker, and knitter. Her homegrown and self- preserved food storage awed many who saw the stores she kept. She shared the wares of her talents with many friends and family.

Barbara was a loving and attentive mother and grandmother. PTA was a mainstay in her life while her children were in school. She stated, “I think I spent more time in school than my kids did sometimes.” When her children where young Barbara served in both Primary and Sunday school of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Barbara loved the years she served as a temple worker in the Vernal temple with her sweetheart, Lynn.

Surviving Barbara are her daughters; Cheryl (Lee England) Blackfoot, Idaho; Charlene (David Ryan, deceased) Tooele, Utah; and Julie (Daren Jensen), West Jordan, Utah; and her son, Kevin (Jenice), Dutch John, Utah. She leaves thirteen grandchildren, who cherish her, and thirty-five great-grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by her brother Raymond Newbold.

Free from pain and suffering, Barbara now joins her beloved husband; a grandson, Jeremy, and great granddaughter, Rose; her parents, and her siblings; Jim (James Alonzo), Jack (John Richard), Franklin (Franklin LeRoy) and Joye (Eleanor Joye Kelsch) in the spirit world where she can continue her service to others and her eternal progression.

We wish to thank the dedicated hospice workers to helped in Mom through this last trial here on earth.

During her lifetime, Barbara overcame many obstacles, rising above the hardships to enjoy the beauty around her. Momma we love you. We’ll see you on the other side.

Graveside services will be held April 25, 2016 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah, at 2pm under the direction of Broomhead Funeral Home.
