Anna "Anita" Charlotte Abele died peacefully at her home outside of Georgetown on Friday, December 1, 2000. Born September 10, 1926 in Teschen, Poland, Anna was the daughter of Marianna Hlisnikowdky and Alois Maresch.

In the 1940's she fled Poland and resided in Stuttgart, Germany where she met her future husband. She came to the United States in January 1961 with her family and became an American citizen on May 3, 1982.

She worked for her brother, Dr. Alois Maresch, Dagsboro until his retirement. After that she worked for Peter Doubrava Button, Georgetown, and Buttons By David, Georgetown as a bookkeeper retiring in 1990.

She was a very active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Georgetown, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Secretary, MD serving in numerous facets. In addition, she was very active in the community. Anna, for the past 28 years, delivered meals to the elderly for the Georgetown Meals on Wheels. She was also the treasurer for the St. Vincent De Paul Society delivering assistance to those in need in the Georgetown and Millsboro areas. She just recently became a volunteer for Delaware Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Hans Abele, in 1992. She is survived by 2 daughters, Doris Gray of Allentown, PA, and Elizabeth Hazzard of Millsboro; 2 sons, Klaus Abele of Richmond, VA, and Andrew Abele of Georgetown, with whom she resided; 1 brother, Dr. Alois Maresch of Pompono Beach, FL; 1 sister, Gerda Gliniecki of Munich, Germany; 9 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am Tuesday at the St. Michael's Catholic Church, Edward St., Georgetown, DE. The Rev. Daniel McCloskey will officiate. Friends may call from 7-9 pm Monday evening at the WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, DE where a Rosary Service will begin at 8 pm. Interment will be following the Mass in Union Cemetery, Georgetown, DE.

Ann lived her life with a strong love for her faith, her family, and her friends. May we reflect on the great joy she brought into our lives and take this joy to live our lives in service to one another.
