He was born in Athens, the son of Tobias and Gesche "Maggie" Williams Neumann.
Mr. Neumann, a retired farmer, was a former member of the Auburn District 10 School Board and was a former member of several other rural school boards.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn and the Sangamon County Farm Bureau.
Mr. Neumann was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Fannie Wilhelmina (Helmerich) in 1968; an infant daughter, Carol; and one sister, Amelia "Emile" [sic] Renken.
Surviving are his wife, Mary E. (Brenner); five daughters, Mrs. Norma Sabine, of Clarendon Hills; Mrs. Lois Belveal, of West Lafayette, Ind.; Miss Barbara Neumann, of Utica, N.Y.; Mrs. Frankie Maley, of Auburn; and Mrs. Jeanie Savidon, of Chicago.; three sons, Ernest, James and Robert, all of Auburn; one sister, Miss Anna Neumann, of Waverly; and 19 grandchildren.
Services were at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn.
Burial was in Auburn Cemetery.
