Elton Earl Green

Elton Earl Green, 91, died July 11 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born May 20, 1921 near Wall, Texas to William Earl and Etna Grimes Green.

Elton grew up on his parents' dairy farm near San Angelo and attended school in San Angelo. He married Mary B Winkler in San Angelo on September 29, 1940. They had two sons, William Elton Green and Marvin Earl Green. Elton and Mary were divorced in 1948 and he moved to New Mexico where he married Lois La Rue Howard Vaughn. After her death in 1984, he married A. Loraine Rogers. They divorced in 1992 and he married Frances E. Warren Shields in 1994. They also later were divorced.

Elton served in the United States Navy during World War II. Afterward, he worked as a machinist and welder, and farmed before operating Green Supply Company in Artesia from the 1950s until the early 1990s. The famous King Ranch in Texas purchased most of the hay used on the ranch from him for more than thirty years. Elton's trucks also transported compressed cotton bales to the Gulf coast and returned to Artesia with a variety of items including boats and geese.

Elton was preceded in death by his parents in 1978, by his only sibling Myrtle Evelyn Green Fowler in 1995, and by all of his wives. He is survived by his sons William Elton Green of Canyon, Texas, and Marvin Earl Green and wife Kay of Eden, Texas, his granddaughter, Carey Kay Green Karvonen and husband Karl of Big Spring, Texas, and a number of cousins.

Elton's body was cremated, at his request. The memorial service will be private.
