Obituary: Jamestown NY Evening Journal, February 19, 1918
DR. ROBERT N. BLANCHARD
In the death of Dr. Robert Newland Blanchard, which occurred suddenly Friday evening, following a stroke of apoplexy in his office, this city loses a citizen whose family name has been closely identified with the medical profession and practice since the village days of Jamestown. In his younger days, before an unfortunate accident deprived him of a leg and made him more or less an invalid for life, Dr. Robert N. Blanchard was one of the most active and skillful physicians of this section. He retained his skill and a measure of his practice till the last, but the days of his greatest activity passed when he lay upon the operating table and in the hospital.
Genial and companionable, with a sense of humor that carried him through many a trying hour, Dr. Blanchard retained his cheerfulness thru years of intense suffering. He had many close friends among his patients and his social companions, and death doubtless came to him as one of his best friends, to give him that rest and ease from pain that had been denied him for so many years in life. In the passing of Dr. Robert N. Blanchard, this community loses one who will long be remembered for his kindly spirit under conditions that would try the souls of the strongest men.
