The Pulaski Citizen newspaper, July 8, 1880 edition, published an obituary for Jesse Shelton: "Mr. Jesse Shelton, an old and highly respected citizen of the 4th district, died --last Monday night of a congestive chill. He was over eighty years of age, and was esteemed universally for those sterling but unobstentatious traits of character that make up an honest man."

Jesse's wife, Malinda Pillow Shelton, died, some say, in March of 1889, but definitely, between 1880 and 1900. They are presumed to be buried in Giles County, Tennessee. They most likely are in sunken or unmarked graves as grave sites have not been found for them.
