OBITUARY – The Braman Leader_Fri., Dec. 6, 1918

Mrs. Charles Barnhart departed this life November 28th 1918 at the age off 44 years, 5 months. Miss Nina Reeves was born in Pleasantville, Iowa, and came to the opening of the Cherokee strip. One year later she married Charles Barnhart. Their home life was simple and pleasant. To this union were born two sons and a daughter. Mr. Barnhart has the profound sympathy of his many friends in this hour of sorrow. The funeral was a quiet one. Rev. J.E. Denham officiated.

____

Nina's father, Johiel Conn Reeves, married Sarah Catherine McMahan at Hartford, Iowa, February 19, 1873. Johiel drowned when Nina was 11 years old, while trying to rescue a horse from the swollen South River near their home.

Nina's mother Sarah, remarried 3 Nov 1892, Coffey, Kansas, USA to Christian Snyder. This is the reason she has two maiden names. It is unclear if Christian adopted her or if she just picked up his surname

Cause of Death: Influenza

H. B. Corkins was in Blackwell last Saturday to attend the funeral of his cousin, Mrs. Nina Barnhart, whose death was cased from an attack of influenza. Mrs. Barnhart's death was a particularly sad one from the fact that hers was the third death in the family from the present epidemic of the flue. The deceased was quite well known here as she had relatives in this city. She also has relative at Dexter, Kansas.
