Joseph Gilbert Sanchez, 89, of Pico Rivera, California passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 20, 2016 in Whittier, California.

He was a WWII Navy Veteran who was proud to serve his country and was stationed on Midway Island for over two years until his discharge in 1944.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Sanchez (whom he married on February 3, 1951 in Los Angeles, CA), mother Isabel Macias Sanchez, brother Ralph Sanchez, and sister Ofelia Gutierrez.

He is survived by his sister Lydia Coleman of Whittier, California, four children, Richard Sanchez (Kathy) of Sacramento, California, Ron Sanchez of Torrance, California, Yvonne Chase of Garden Grove, California, and Stephanie Rauert (Michael) of Bakersfield, California. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Sarah Tassano (Anthony) of Folsom, California, Julianna Sanchez of San Francisco, California, Matthew Hill of St. George, Utah, Taylor Barisoff of Garden Grove, California, William Joseph Rauert of Gering, Nebraska, and Ashley Rauert of Denver, Colorado, and two great grandchildren, Brady and Noah Tassano (Sarah), who knew him as "Great Papa", as well as his many loving nieces, nephews and other friends.
